The most important thing we do each day is not some ambitious thing. It is not doing or being right (or left). On the right course. Busy. Or productive (there’s a difference). “Successful”. Or making the money. Pursuing any number of good things. It is not in our thoughts. Caring for our families. Time with great friends. Raising wonderful children. Pursuing degrees. Developing our ministry. Fighting for social justice. Giving back to our communities. Building that business. Planning our next vacation. Our next career move. Finding the perfect house. Or mate. Or having that perfect love.
The most important thing we can do each day is the exact opposite thing. It’s a less yields more thing. A sacred time to seat ourselves down with Him. Because once we center ourselves in the vast nothingness and infinite everythingness of His Presence, we’ve done the most important thing. We lose all our baggage and relieve ourselves of our own expectations and burdens. We dump the false to-do lists and open our hearts to receive from The Almighty…His most important things for us to receive and focus on in that moment, for that day. Our immediate musts to see, and do…and BE. We are free to absorb and reflect on, to understand and know…and be transformed. We become available to intersect in His perfect timing with all the other people and opportunities. He intends we meet on that day. And we’re more perfect for having been with Him. Simply because we stopped…for Him…before we did anything else. Because perfecting takes place in His Presence.
And when we emerge to begin our day we are WITH Him…to do and be and serve and bless…AS Him. His heart. His mind. His Body. Right here, on earth. And truly live effective lives that bless us and Him and every other life we touch.
Yes. The most important thing we do each day is not what we are programmed to think must be done. It’s actually deprogramming all that life clutter so we can begin again in Him. Over and over again. Every day. To cleanse ourselves of the pollution of our own and our world’s expectations and demands…and only take on what He gives us during our time with Him. Only that.
Every day. Over and over again. First thing. Most important. Protect it without excuse. We’re not here to just stumble and fumble through these sacred moments of our precious lives. Not when we have…HIM!
The most important thing we can do each day is to be still. Remove ourselves from everything. Even from our own crowded thought life…and just be still. And just BE. Simply BE. With Him.
